Sam's ATS is a front-end prototype of a custom applicant tracking system: jobs, candidates, a Kanban pipeline, offers, feedback forms and analytics, plus light, dark and party modes. Sam built it in about an hour, his first time using Claude Code, and showed it in Episode 9 (August 22, 2025). It runs on fake data and has no back end yet.
Our recruiting team lives in an applicant tracking system all day. Sam wanted one that matches exactly how they work, refined with the recruiters, then handed to our engineers. Later it could add AI features: Ryz Score resume scoring, AI-written emails, and matching past candidates to new roles.
So for instance, I would have an agent focusing specifically on the jobs page and really building it out to my specifications. While that was working, I had another agent focused on this candidate page.
— Sam Nadler, Episode 9
I think, you know, for me, personally, my limit was around three agents, making sure I was, like, you know, engaging appropriately with each agent on what it was building.
— Sam Nadler, Episode 9
The pages look polished. The pipeline board is a Kanban of candidate cards you can drag between editable statuses. The candidates page filters by stage. There are offer templates, and feedback forms you can customize by role, so a technical hire gets technical feedback. Analytics is still a placeholder, and some buttons don't work. Party mode plays a custom song.
Sam thought a couple more hours would get it to exactly what he needs, and guessed engineers would need a couple of months to ship it. Jordan pushed back: use Claude Code to also design the database schema and the edge or Lambda functions, so the handoff is a full plan rather than a prototype. He hoped a standalone version could be built in days, or a few weeks if it lived inside a larger existing app.
Jordan also noted how far Sam had come in about eight weeks of the show, from Bolt to multiple agents. Sam's line at 13:26:
Yeah. Absolutely. And, you know, hopefully, I'm a push to anyone out there not using these tools. If I can do it, you can do it.
— Sam Nadler, Episode 9
More recruiting builds: NTRVSTA and AI in Recruiting.
Sam wrote a generic PRD with ChatGPT and gave it to Claude Code for a first version, then wrote a second PRD describing his team's exact workflow and the features they liked in their current ATS. He ran up to three Claude Code agents in parallel, each on a different page.
Sam's practical limit was about three, so he could still engage properly with what each agent was building.
Sam started with a generic PRD from ChatGPT, then a second, specific PRD covering his team's use case and the existing ATS features they liked. That second PRD produced something close to how the team works right away.
It depends on the build. Sam would still try Bolt first for something small or a landing page; Jordan suggested Replit when you need a built-in back end and Claude Code for bigger builds like this one.
