Short answer: Ivan Lee says healthcare and legal are adopting faster than any past technology, and companies now see their domain expertise as a moat they do not want to share as Anthropic launches products in their categories.
From Episode 56: He Built Siri at Apple. Now His Private AI Runs Inside the FBI, Google, and Netflix., starting at 3:22.
Sam Nadler [3:22]: Yeah. I think it's, I think there's gonna be a huge shift to doing this over, I don't know exact time period. And, obviously, there's the immediate use case with, like, HIPAA and health care. Is there any, like, surprising... And legal, I'm assuming, but is there any, like, surprising industries that, have been quick to adopt a kind of a private solution like the one you're offering?
Ivan Lee [3:47]: Well, surprising in a couple of ways. I think, first, historically, health care and legal, these industries are notorious for moving more conservatively, more slowly. But the use case is just so compelling that they really do... They've been moving a lot more quickly to adopt this technology than perhaps any other technology in history, cloud, mobile included. Right? And so there is just this immense appetite to be adopting LLMs and AI agents. But at the same time, we still... They still have to take into consideration exactly what you said, HIPAA, SOC two compliance, just increasingly... It started with, cost consideration and compliance consideration, but I think one thing that's really shifted this year is a lot of companies realizing that these are... Their subject matter expertise, their domain expertise is their moat. That is their kind of... The thing that has kept them competitive over the last few decades. And so there's more and more examples of Anthropic partnering with a company and then launching a product of their own in that same category. Right? There's Claude Design.
Ivan Lee [4:59]: There's Claude Legal. And so increasingly, these companies are realizing, wait. Am I comfortable sharing all these domain secrets or know how in, these really complex processes and just partnering with them to teach them exactly how this is done? Pair that alongside the fact that there's been a whole new wave of open weight models this year, and suddenly, there is both motive as well as opportunity to build your own AI and turn that into a strategic asset.
