Meta Muse Image
Sam found Meta's Muse Image feels pretty similar to Nano Banana or OpenAI's image model; what stood out was that it can remix anyone's public Instagram photos, which we think deserves caution.

Our verdict on Meta Muse Image
Meta Muse Image is a capable image generator that doesn't stand out on quality. Sam tried it in July 2026 and said it "feels pretty similar to Nano Banana or OpenAI." What does stand out is that it can work from anyone's public Instagram photos.
This is a news-segment test, not a long review. Sam made two images, and we didn't compare it head to head with other models on the same prompts.
What we did with Meta Muse Image
In Episode 50, Sam brought Muse Image into the news segment after trying it himself:
- A rock-star Jordan. Because Jordan's Instagram profile is public, Sam asked it to "make mister Metz into a rock star." The result was "pretty good," though Jordan, who is Jewish, pointed out it had given him a cross.
- A technical diagram. Sam asked for a diagram of how Vinci AI, the guest's company, speeds up physics simulation for chips, then a more technical second version. He said he had no idea if it was accurate.
And, you know, honestly, it feels pretty similar to Nano Banana or OpenAI.

How we'd use Meta Muse Image
From Sam's two tests, and the mistakes they showed:
- Start from a real photo when likeness matters. The rock-star image worked because it had Jordan's actual photos to draw on. That's also why it raises consent questions.
- Think about whose face it is. Sam asked on air how controversial it should be that you can instantly alter someone's public images. We didn't settle it, and the tool won't settle it for you.
- Check details that carry meaning. Sam missed the cross until Jordan pointed it out. Symbols, text and clothing are where image models get people wrong.
- Ask for a second, more specific pass. Sam's first diagram was general, so he asked for a more technical one.
- Have an expert check technical diagrams. Sam asked our guest for an opinion because he couldn't judge accuracy himself.
- Don't switch for quality alone. Sam's only quality verdict was that it felt similar to Nano Banana and OpenAI's model, so we can't say it beats what you already use.
Where Meta Muse Image falls short
- Public photos. Sam called it "controversial" that it can alter someone's public images. He also acknowledged people could probably do the same on another platform anyway.
- Trust in Meta. Jordan said there's "a little hesitation" about Meta in general, as a company that depends on social networks and content generation.
- Cultural mistakes. The cross on Jordan's rock-star image is a small example of a model guessing wrong about a real person.
- Unverified diagrams. We don't know whether the Vinci diagram was correct.
What our guest said
Hardik Kabaria of Vinci took the long view. With language models, people first worried about accuracy and trust, then built guardrails, then trusted them in production. He expects images to go through the same evolution, with guardrails arriving over time, and to become a very different kind of product from language.
Jordan added a broader question: AI images and video have been good for a while, so why no AI-made hit show yet? He has seen AI trailers and TV commercials, including one for the Monopoly Go game, but no AI-made movie on Netflix. His guess is that quality still isn't high enough for most creators, and our own AI videos and images often end up "kinda suboptimal to reality."
