Google AI Studio
Google AI Studio is where we build quick demos and throwaway apps, because Gemini is already built in, but for real software we still move to Claude Code, Codex or Cursor.

Our verdict on Google AI Studio
Google AI Studio is our go-to for fast demos and throwaway apps. Its advantage over other vibe-coding tools is that Gemini is already wired in, so an app can see, listen and answer without you building a back end. As of April 2026 we both still use it for quick builds, but neither of us uses it for software we plan to keep.
What we built with Google AI Studio
How we use Google AI Studio
- Set up billing first. Jordan said you may need an API key so you can pay for your use, and that this step is a little complicated (Episode 38, at 11:12).
- Write the spec somewhere else if the domain is new. For the healthcare prototype, Sam got a PRD from ChatGPT, then pasted it into AI Studio.
- Prompt in one line, or start from a template. At launch there were 16 templates, including Nano Banana apps, voice apps and animating images with Veo.
- Accept the suggested features. While it builds, AI Studio proposes extras: weather alerts and an hourly forecast for the weather app, a difficulty setting and timer for the costume game.
- Use Gemini as the app's brain. The mirror, costume guesser and route planner all call Gemini directly, with no keys or back end to wire up.
- Iterate with small changes, then rerun. Jordan made quick edits to the route planner and reran it for Nashville.
- Ship or export. From the same screen you can deploy, push to GitHub, download, share a link, preview on other devices and view the code.
- Use the rest of the studio too. The same UI covers chat with Google Search grounding, Nano Banana images, Lyria 3 music, video, live voice and screen sharing.
Oh, no. There's a step function improvement here, and the step function improvement is that Gemini is already integrated.

Where Google AI Studio falls short
- Not for big software. Jordan puts anything large in Cursor, Claude Code or OpenAI Codex, and AI Studio in the column for demos and gimmicks.
- Setup friction. The API key and billing setup was the one thing Jordan called complicated.
- Gemini's answers can be wrong. The mirror said Microsoft was the most valuable company, not Nvidia.
- Prototype, not product. On the start-of-care build, Arun Kalaiselvan and Anand Chandrasekaran of Arya Health said it got the disciplines right, but real healthcare software needs HIPAA compliance and real-time processing.
- Not our pick for learning content. Sam finds NotebookLM better for educational content.
Got a PRD from ChatGPT, went to the Google AI studio using Gemini Pro, put the PRD, and then within four or five different tweaks, probably in the span of thirty minutes, I had kind of what we're seeing now.

Google AI Studio compared
- Bolt vs Google AI Studio: AI Studio wins when the app needs AI, since Gemini is built in.
- Google AI Studio vs Lovable: same reason; Lovable fits short-lived apps that need a database.
- Claude Code vs Google AI Studio: AI Studio for quick demos, Claude Code for real software.
- Google AI Studio vs NotebookLM: NotebookLM for educational content.
I still really love this Google, like, AI Studio for just building out little web apps because it's it's so fast and so clean and gives you good inspiration.

FAQ
What is Google AI Studio good for?
For us, quick prototypes and throwaway demos. Both hosts reach for it when they want something fast, and Jordan says he loves it for little web apps because it is fast and clean and gives good inspiration.
Is Google AI Studio better than Lovable or Bolt?
For apps that need AI features, Jordan thinks so, because Gemini is already integrated. In Bolt or Lovable you usually need a back end, an API choice and a key before the app can call a model.
How do you use Google AI Studio Build?
Go to the Build area, type a one-line prompt or start from a template, and hit build. While it builds, it suggests features you can add, and when it is done you can deploy, push to GitHub, download or share a link.
Do you need an API key for Google AI Studio?
Jordan said you might have to set it up with an API key so you can pay for your use, and called that part a little complicated. Once set up, he likes that many tools share one standardized UI.
Can you build production apps in Google AI Studio?
We do not. Jordan puts big pieces of software in Cursor, Claude Code or Codex, and our healthcare guests stressed that a vibe-coded prototype is far from HIPAA-compliant production software.
